Session 1 - MAG - How changes to the Code impact on the MAG ALP - AVAILABLE ONLINE ONLY

Presenter Bio:

Rohan Kennedy

Rohan has been Chair of the Gymnastics Australia National Commission since 2013. He has been an FIG Brevet Judge since 2001, having judged at 5 World Championships and 3 Commonwealth Games. Rohan is a MAG Advanced Silver coach and currently the Club Manager at Hunter Sports Centre, Newcastle.

Session Description:

Changes to the FIG MAG 2022 - 2024 Code of Points that will be incorporated into the ALP rules for MAG Level 7 - 10 will be outlined.

Session 2 - MAG tumbling - double saltos - forwards & backwards

Session Date & Time: Sunday 28th November 9.00am - 10.30am

Presenter Bio:

Rodrigo Caron

Rodrigo has over 18 years experience coaching Men’s and Women’s gymnastics in Brazil, USA and Australia. He placed three athletes on the Brazilian Junior National Team. He has a degree in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy and is an ex-gymnast having competed at a National level in Brazil. In 2018, Rodrigo moved to Australia to coach at Manly Warringah Gymnastics Club, the winner of 2019 MAG National Club Championships. Rodrigo has coached numerous Australian Junior National Champions. He is an FIG Brevet Judge for MAG and was part of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Session Description:

The following areas of teaching double saltos will be covered:

  • creating height in saltos
  • creating rotation in saltos
  • trampoline awareness
  • spotting
  • transfer to the floor

Session 3 - MAG tumbling - twisting - forwards & backwards

Session Date & Time: Sunday 28th November 11.00am - 12.30pm

  • how to create twisting
  • importance of late twisting action
  • trampoline drills
  • transferring to the floor

Session 4 - MAG Vault - Tsukahara & Kasamatsu

Session Date & Time: Sunday 28th November 1.30pm - 3.00pm

  • floor drills
  • entry onto the spring board and table
  • creating pop & flight
  • second flight with front flip
  • completing the twisting

Session 5 - MAG Ring swings & strength

Session Description:

The following areas of Rings training will covered:

  • the importance of the swing on rings & what it should look like
  • front swing & back swing
  • body tension and physical preparation for swing
  • how to spot
  • how swings impact on inlocates, dislocates and giants
  • strength for rings including front and back lever; handstand; cross presses & tuck planches

Updating Points:

Two updating points per session will be awarded.
