I have a hypothesis that good food is good medicine and through this we create great communities. I'd like to bring the community together to talk about these three things and how they relate to each other. Health is not something that the doctor tells you to do; a sustainable local food system is not just accepting what the big supermarkets have on their shelves, and communities don't grow from co-location. We have the power to choose and create the happy healthy vibrant and connected Food systems and Health systems and Communities we want to live in.
……………………………and it just begins with a conversation over a meal.
What's the purpose of this?
This is a way to get a conversation started in regards to Food, Health and Community. That's it. It's as simple and as revolutionary as that. Amazing things start with a conversation and nothing happens when we all are isolated and not connected.
Is this some local council thing?
Nope. It's a local people thing. I'm a local and I wanna talk to other locals about how we can work actively towards making this the kind of community that meets all our needs. However, I have invited some people who are in council, and would like to think they'll attend and use it as an opportunity to listen to a community who has chosen to meet on their own terms with their own agenda.
Is this some kind of talk?
Nope. It's more of a facilitated discussion or conversation. It's not a lecture where someone rambles off a whole bunch of expert solutions. We are the experts on our community and the purpose of coming together is to raise questions and concerns then look at them together as a community.
Can I bring the kids?
Absolutely! But be aware that there may be a lot of "boring talking" by adults. The surgery does have a kids corner so if they are happy to play there with some of their own activities that would be fine. Or....if they are willing we'd certainly appreciate and welcome their particpation in the conversation.
Who's this sponsored by?
No one. It's at the Robertson Doctor and no one is giving me anything to do this and no one will give you anything either, though there will be food and drink on the night.....oh and does a sense of community and shared purpose count for anything? :-) It does also coincide with Robertson Doctor's Mental Health Month activities as well as being right at the beginning of Fair Food Week. An auspicious time to be talking about this stuff I reckon.
What should I bring?
A plate of food to share. A beverage of your choice and a cup to drink it out of. Yeh it's pretty DIY.
