About this Event

District Disaster Management Group Member Induction

The main objectives of the Disaster Management Act 2003 (the Act) are to help communities mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster situations and to provide effective disaster management for the State.

Established under the Act, a district disaster management group (DDMG) for each disaster district provides whole-of-government planning and coordination capacity to support local governments in disaster operations. The disaster districts perform a ‘middle management’ function within the disaster management arrangements by providing coordinated State government support when requested by local disaster management groups. DDMG membership consists of representatives of State government agencies and non-government organisations involved in disaster management and a representative for each local government in the district.

A DDMG Member Induction Checklist has been developed for inductees to complete during the induction and to retain for future reference. To be an effective member of the DDMG, members are to have an understanding and knowledge of the following topics.
