Event description

Description

The Rotary Club of Sydney President's DALANG PROJECT for indigenous oral health seeks your support.

The Project is a collaboration between Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, NSW Centre for Oral Health Strategy, The Rotary Club of Sydney and the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. It is an oral health promotion and obesity prevention project which combines oral health service delivery with integrated health promotion across communities in NSW.

The Dalang Project aims to improve oral health and prevent obesity by increasing fluoride use among children and families and ensuring each school and community has access to filtered and chilled water to increase consumption of water in Aboriginal children. This is done by consulting with the local Aboriginal community and building relationships with schools, preschools and community health centres to identify potential oral health promotion strategies. These strategies include:

  • Installation of filtered and refrigerated water fountains in schools and/or communities
  • Structured school water bottle programs to encourage consumption of water
  • Structured school tooth brushing programs
  • Fluoride varnish programs
  • Regular oral health education sessions at local schools

The Dalang project also aims to ensure children in each community have access to culturally competent dental treatment through a school dental screening program.
