Event description
A new initiative of the Asia Education Foundation, the Global Youth Advocacy Forum is an interactive series of student programs.

About this Event

The Global Youth Advocacy Forum is a new series of online student-led events for Year 9 students across Victoria.

Delivered in partnership between the Asia Education Foundation (AEF) and High Resolves, these forums have been designed under the guidance of Emeritus Professor Fazal Rizvi from The University of Melbourne Graduate School of Education.

Global Youth Advocacy Forums will connect students from across Victorian regions and educational sectors to facilitate philosophical and sociological conversations about important topics in education in the current global context.

Prior to the forums, teams will be asked to write short stories (vignettes) based on their interviews with people in their local communities and high school students in the Asia Pacific region. These schools can include existing sister schools, Victorian Young Leaders (VYL) partner schools, and schools within AEF’s network.

On the forum day, students will exchange and analyse these stories with teams from other schools to generate new insights and questions based on the concepts and theoretical frameworks introduced by AEF and High Resolves.

The inaugural 2020 forums will run across four dates in October and November, each inviting up to twelve teams of six students to:

  • Create and share stories about global complexities from Victoria and Asia Pacific.
  • Engage in Citizenship and Independent Thinking learning experiences facilitated by High Resolves.
  • Receive a university-level lecture and workshop on theoretical frameworks relating to the topic of each forum.
  • Gain critical insight into complexities of globalisation and education by using stories from Victoria and the Asia Pacific, High Resolves immersive experiences and key theoretical frameworks.
  • Come up with new questions and challenges concerning education in today’s world
  • Identify and connect with like-minded teams from other schools to work on shared goals.
  • Learn about and be connected to organisations such as the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, VicSRC, and Global Journalism Exchange.
