By special arrangement with Dominie Pty Ltd, Queensland Academies Creative Industries have had the incredible opportunity to work with renowned director, actor and trainer Steven Mitchell Wright, Artistic Director of The Danger Ensemble. Under Steven's daring, exciting and challenging direction, Year 10 Theatre students will be staging Evan Placey's urgent and provactive contemporary piece Girls Like That.
“When a naked photograph of Scarlett goes viral, she becomes the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons. Rumours spread across smart phones like wildfire and her reputation becomes toxic, threatening to shatter the fragile unity of the girls she has grown up with. But how long can Scarlett remain silent? And why isn’t it the same for boys?"
The play brilliantly explores the pressures on young people in today’s digital generation, peer and social relationships and teen gender equality. Specifically commissioned by Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Theatre Royal Plymouth and West Yorkshire Playhouse, the play was developed through work with young people from the three theatres and first performed by their youth theatre companies in 2013.
The play is targeted specifically at our audience in an authentic teen voice. Its content is challenging without being outside of our ensemble’s understanding, experience or capability and is the perfect culmination of their IB theatre studies.
Tickets to these performances are strictly limited and bookings are essential. If you are reserving a group high school student booking (including a minimum of 10 students, plus 1 teacher) please email firstname.lastname@example.org to secure your tickets for your special rate.
Warning: This production is suitable for audiences aged 13 and over.
