Event description

Description

3600 years ago the female pharaoh Hatshepsut organized a trading expedition down the Red Sea to the distant Land of Punt. That expedition is commemorated on the walls of her mortuary temple at Luxor, and formed the basis for an ambitious re-creation and sailing of one of the vessels depicted.

Through images and video, Maritime Archaeologist Tom Vosmer will provide background to Hatshepsut and her contemporary Egyptian society, explore the science, archaeology and art behind the reconstruction, describe the challenges and solutions of the reconstruction, as well as the performance of the vessel.
