Les Bell
Lecturer, Department of Computing

Expertise: Secure coding techniques, probabilistic risk assessment, security culture, forensics and computational trust.

Les Bell currently teaches COMP343 “Cryptography and Information Security” and COMP344, “e-Commerce Technologies” which covers web application security. Les has been developing and conducting commercial training courses since the early 1980’s, many of them security-related, such as “Hacking and Securing Windows”, “Hacking and Securing Linux”, “Information Security Essentials”, “Security Auditing, Attacks and Threat Analysis”, for clients such as IBM and Apple. He currently teaches a commercial prep/review course for the CISSP certification, both publicly and for clients such as Westpac, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and others. The public courses attract attendees from government (especially Defence and Australian Signals Directorate), police forces and major financial institutions, among others. Les’s research interests include secure coding techniques, probabilistic risk assessment, security culture, forensics and computational trust. He holds an M.Info. Tech. from Macquarie and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional with the Information Systems Security Architecture Professional concentration.
