Get Ahead: Assignment Essentials in Geraldton

In partnership with the Geraldton Universities Centre, Curtin University Library is proud to present the Get Ahead: Assignment Essentials workshop. This one-day workshop is designed to provide you with the foundation you need for study success. Divided into four sessions, you can opt to attend the entire series or just register for the workshops that most interest you. Between sessions, networking opportunities (and food!) are provided so that you can begin to build your own supportive study community.
This workshop, open to students from all WA universities, is a great opportunity to start your study on the right foot and puts you in a great position to ace your assignments. Places are limited so register now!
8.30am - Registration
Check-in, get comfortable, and enjoy a tea or coffee.
9am - Welcome
A welcome and some activities to get us warmed up.
9.20am - Searching for information: Using Library tools
An introduction to searching which starts with the question, analysing the brief and successfully identifying key concepts. From basic searching to creating a search strategy you will be introduced to strategies for searching success.
10.15am - Break
10.30am - Assignments: Focus on writing
You’ve done your research, but you’re stuck on your first sentence. This session will suggest approaches to make sure you avoid the assignment trap and get you reading with purpose and writing with confidence.
11.45am - Lunch
Provided for all who opt to attend the full day.
12.30pm - Wrestling with referencing
Creating accurate reference lists is a great way to maximise marks, but it’s so easy to make mistakes. This hands-on, interactive workshop introduces the mechanics of referencing helping you avoid common errors.
1.30pm - Break
1.45pm - Getting started with EndNote
EndNote is a bibliographic management tool designed to help you manage your research and references. This hands-on, introductory workshop covers everything you need to know to start using EndNote successfully.
Note: You’ll need to bring your own laptop for this session with the EndNote software already downloaded.
3.30pm - Finish
