Discovery Day 2020 and Field Trip
In light of the current COVID-19 restrictions in South Australia, the Geological Survey of South Australia has made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person aspects of Discovery Day 2020. Your health and wellbeing is of utmost importance to us at this time.
This means that the Hallett Cove Field Trip planned for Wednesday, 25 November and the in-person conference on Thursday, 26 November will no longer occur.
This doesn't mean Discovery Day 2020 is cancelled. We are making provisions so that you can still access the great learnings from the Geological Survey of South Australia (GSSA).
In addition to the on-demand content already planned for Discovery Day, all our GSSA speakers will record their presentations to view on demand.
On Thursday, 26 November all of these presentations will go live on the Department for Energy and Mining YouTube channel in a Discovery Day 2020 playlist. So register now to receive the link.
The GSSA have so much to share with you this Discovery Day. We hope you enjoy our new format.
Stay healthy, and I'll be in touch again soon with further details about the online Discovery Day.

Discovery Day 2020: Reducing the risk through geoscience and innovation
Online from Thursday 26 November 2020
The Geological Survey of South Australia’s (GSSA) Discovery Day 2020 will go live on 26 November 2020.
Discovery Day will bring data and geoscientific knowledge from the GSSA, but like so many other events this year it will be delivered a little differently.
The program will cover departmental projects like the Accelerated Discovery Initiative, and ExploreSA: Gawler Challenge as well as new research by the GSSA on lithospheric controls on mineralisation and a progress report on the MinEx CRC National Drilling Initiative program in the Delamerian Orogen.
Program
- GSSA: review and update: Rohan Cobcroft, Director, GSSA
- The smoking nickel gun in the western Gawler Craton: context and potential: Anthony Reid, Senior Principal Geoscientist, GSSA
- Focussing on the Delamerian lithospheric architecture with new MT: Kate Robertson, Senior Geophysicist, GSSA
- Our best foot forward in new/old terrane: Delamerian Orogen progress: Tom Wise, Senior Geologist, GSSA
- Unearthing new mineral deposits with big data: ExploreSA: The Gawler Challenge
Program is subject to change.
