Event description

Description

Part of the BGH workshop, we will conduct a 1 day short course on lithospheric processes

modelling on the 26 of February in the Madsen Building conference room at the School of
Geosciences, The University of Sydney, Australia. The course will start at 9:30am, but it is
recommended that you arrive at 9am to get set up (get wifi internet access,
download/install software, and so on). We will finish up at about 4:30 pm.

The workshop will introduce UWGeodynamics, the simplified python interface which aims
to facilitate quick development of Underworld models.
We will reduce the amount of technical requirements to a minimum and will essentially
focus on geological applications using examples. Users will be shown how to set the
temperature field, change the rheologies and boundary conditions.

Among more advanced topics and depending on attendees interests we may discuss topics such as
Static vs deforming meshes, running Underworld on multi-processors systems,
Visco-elasticity, Isostasy and support conditions, surface processes, coupling with badlands.

We encourage seasoned Underworld modellers to bring previous Underworld results.
