Event description

Description

This workshop will provide an overview of different types of browsers and a detailed hands on tutorial on the UCSC genome browser, illustrating a number of tools. We will use example data to demonstrate how to make and upload custom tracks on the UCSC genome browser and use the Table browser to retrieve the genomic positions for targets of interest for a custom bed file.

You will also learn how to load and view publically available RNAseq data in the Integrative Genome Browser (Broad Institute) and visualize the individual reads of NGS data.

Expectations

All participants are expected to have a good understanding of molecular Biology.

The workshop is aimed at bench researchers with no coding/programming skills who wish to learn how to utilise online data and resources to refine their biological research questions and discovery.

What you need

• A charged lap top

• access to Uniwireless

• Web browser

• Microsoft Excel

• IGV installed (see link below)

To install IGV on your laptop go to the link below and download the application for your system.
