A NEW PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE FOR SECONDARY SCIENCE AND BIOLOGY

FOR SECONDARY SCIENCE AND BIOLOGY

Humans and the natural world are facing great challenges in the 21st century: climate change, health burdens, and food security, to name a few. What role can biotechnology and genetic technologies play in addressing these challenges? How do we even start to ask the right questions?

In an inquiry-based approach, you will be trained by active researchers from Macquarie University, and practice investigations that can be taken back to your school. Brush up on your genetics knowledge and skills and get ready for the new 2018 HSC Syllabus for $330 (incl. GST).

The Department of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University has developed a NSW Education Standards Authority-Registered professional development course,

Course will include (subject to change):

  • Talks on cutting edge science and technology from researchers in biology

- Possible topics: conserving endangered species, genetic engineering of crops, ethics of genetic technologies

  • Hands-on experience with scientific techniques
  • Practice investigation akin to the ‘Depth Study’ in the new Stage 6 Syllabus

- Apply your knowledge of genetic tools to addressing a real-world question

  • Opportunities to network with colleagues from schools throughout NSW

Completing this course will contribute 10 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 3.2.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

*The course will run will a minimum of eight people. If minimum capcity is not meet before 31 May 2018. A full refund with be issued.
