'Managing infections into the future: antimicrobial stewardship in general practice'


This General Practice Workshop will cover:

  • Respiratory tract infections: Communication and prescribing strategies for using antibiotics wisely.
  • To swab or not to swab?: Skin and soft tissue infections; sexually transmitted infections and antibiotic resistance; and understanding laboratory reports.
  • Recognising and responding to sepsis.
  • Wise antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes: Resources, practical strategies and discussion.
  • Wise antibiotic prescribing in general practice: Resources, practical strategies and discussion.


This workshop is being delivered by the:

  • National Centre for Antimicrobial Stewardship (Monash University and University of Melbourne),
  • Department of General Practice (Monash University),
  • Department of General Practice (University of Melbourne) and
  • Primary Care Clinical Unit (University of Queensland).


Target audience:

This workshop is aimed at general practitioners and general practice registrars.


CPD points will be applied for:

RACGP CPD category 1 points for the whole day; category 2 points for individual sessions.

The National Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship Forum will be held at the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Victoria, on Friday, 2 November, 2018. This forum, organised jointly by a number of Australian clinical and research groups working on AMR and AMS, will offer a dynamic program covering all facets of the response to antimicrobial resistance, including clinical infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship, translational science, new drug development, veterinary and agricultural medicine, and government and policy responses. The 2018 Forum is being hosted by the National Centre for Antimicrobial Stewardship (University of Melbourne) and Safer Care Victoria (Department of Health and Human Services, Victoria).
