General Induction (January)
Event Information
About this event
Never used the tools in the Fabrication Lab before?
That's okay. The Applied Creativity team at State Library run a weekly Fabrication Lab General Induction. These inductions provide you with all the skills and knowledge to safely and efficient use the tools.
Apart from signing up for an account, it’s the only thing you need to do before you can start using hand tools, cordless drills, hot glue guns, our paint booth, vinyl cutter, the laptops & software in Fabrication Lab at The Edge.
These inductions consist of:
- an explanation of our terms of use,
- a rundown of the safe use of the tools,
- a hands-on, practical exercise on the tools, making something cool to take home.
With one of these inductions under your belt you’ll hopefully have the confidence to come back and try the equipment on one of your own projects or one of the many starter projects we can refer you to.

Important COVID-19 information
In line with the Queensland Government’s COVID-19 restrictions, from 17 December 2021 unvaccinated people aged 16 years and over will be unable to enter Queensland Government-owned libraries, galleries and museums. This includes State Library of Queensland.
We will continue following Queensland Government advice. Given the public health directions are subject to change, please check our alerts page before your visit for the latest information.
State Library carpark access has changed
Due to Brisbane City Council’s permanent closure of Victoria Bridge to general traffic, all access to the Cultural Centre carparks is now via Stanley Place (from the Grey Street and Peel Street intersection, or Montague Road).
