GenAI 203 Tools

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is one of the newest and most powerful tools in the researcher toolbox, however many researchers feel uncertain about the ethics and practicality of using GenAI for tasks such as literature searching, summarising, and manuscript writing.

This workshop series aims to build skills, knowledge, and capability among researchers in the use of GenAI. The series overall will cover:

• Introduction to GenAI in research, including types, benefits and limitations of GenAI models (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot; local models including Llama);
• GenAI for enhancing literature searching and manuscript writing;
• GenAI for grant writing and research documentation;
• Ethical considerations and limitations;
• Best practices for crafting effective AI prompts;

This session will focus on discussing the pros, cons and alternatives for commercially available tools for research tasks, such as Scite, Elicit, and Research Rabbit.

Format: This is an online only session, held over Zoom

Prerequisites: Learners are HIGHLY recommended to attend SIH’s GenAI 101 workshop as content in this session will refer to the foundational concepts and principles covered in that module.

Who the workshop is for: This workshop is for Academic and ProfessionalStaff, research students, and affiliates of The University of Sydney (with a valid UniKey).
