About this Event

‘A Sense of Place’ – a Gelli Plate & Mixed Media Workshop with Tara Axford. www.taraaxford.com

Please find below all the information you need regarding workshop attendance:

Tara Axford is a mixed media artist working with prints, collage, mixed media, fibre arts, and photography, she is interested in the push-pull of constantly searching for something... Are we developing something new or are we constantly referencing and influenced by the past? She draws inspiration from her surroundings. The forgotten, the weathered and discarded appeal to her.

Her current practice is to explore her surroundings, the sense of place, ‘zooming in’ on an environment and working with that. That could mean photographing found objects, ‘foraged’ natural elements and arranging them to be seen in a different way. She enjoys abstracting the essence of a place to create something new. So the viewer can also experience something they may have previously overlooked, with fresh eyes. Currently exploring found objects, patterns and textures and how it reflects the sense of place and creates a connection to it.

Workshop overview

How to capture and distil the essence of a place using gelli plate printing. If you have been disappointed with gelli printing in the past, or wanted to try printing without a press - then this is for you!

Students will be given prompts to create a number of monoprints, we will then look at how to use these to create a choice of postcards, paper vessel and/or artist book. Emphasis is on how to see the familiar with fresh eyes and how to create a composition that works using various design principles.

This workshop is suitable for all levels.

Tara will supply 10 - 5"x5" student gelli plates to use on the day, or you can bring your own. (You can make your own - many recipes on line).

We will supply:
