About this event

Join the Gippsland Climate Change Network for our Annual General Meeting with a presentation of the Annual Report and a vote for the Board members. Or join us from 7.15pm for a talk by Greg Mullins and a chance to ask questions.

We welcome Greg Mullins AO AFSM to our AGM to speak about his new book FIRESTORM: Battling super-charged natural disasters.

In his recently released book, former NSW Fire and Rescue Commissioner Greg Mullins AO AFSM gives an account of the terrifying experiences he has had during his long career. He witnessed fire seasons become more devastating as weather patterns changed, “climate change is categorically responsible for unprecedented bushfire seasons, and without action they’ll get worse”.

Leading up to the catastrophic Black Summer fires of 2019/20, Greg formed Emergency Leaders for Climate Action, a group of highly experienced former fire chiefs and emergency service leaders. This group tried to warn the government about how dangerous the upcoming fire season would be but were repeatedly ignored.

Greg will speak about his experiences and findings, and will welcome questions following his presentation.

Guest Speaker: Greg Mullins AO AFSM. From being a volunteer firefighter then a career firefighter, he is an internationally recognised expert in responding to major bushfires and natural disasters. During his 39-year career he served as President, Vice President and Board Chair of the Australasian Fire & Emergency Service Authorities’ Council, Deputy Chair of the NSW State Emergency Management Committee, Australian Director of the International Fire Chiefs Association of Asia, NSW representative on the Australian Emergency Management Committee, Australian representative on the UN’s International Search & Rescue Advisory Group, and as a member of the NSW Bushfire Coordinating Committee.
