Description

Visit Garguree Swampcare to learn about the traditional custodian's ecological practices in The Gully and philosophy of 'Connecting to Country'.

The North Sydney Council Bushland Team will bus volunteers and community members to Katoomba to meet David King and Garguree Swampcare, winners of the prestigious regional Indigenous Land Management Landcare Award, 2017. The Garguree swampcare group have worked for six years to restore The Gully, a place of Aboriginal significance, by weeding, planting, bush regeneration, removing rubbish and brush matting to its natural state. Of particular interest is this community group's efforts to heal the community and share cultural knowledge through The Gully Traditional Owners and their descendants.

Bus trip and morning tea provided free of charge. Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather conditions, including; long pants, a long sleeved shirt, enclosed shoes (e.g boots) and a hat. Bring a bottle of drinking water and your own lunch. Please arrive for a 7 am departure, as it is a long trip and we would like to meet our host on time.

This is a unique experience not to missed.
