Event description
The Collective presents a gardening workshop designed to meet the needs of everyone from the novice through to the advanced gardener.

About this event

This workshop is a repeat of the same program. A second session has been added due to demand. How fab!

Workshop 1: “Bare to Beautiful”

Presenter: Cass Hooke

Cass is a passionate home gardener with a background in botany, conservation, and wholesale nurseries. She lives on a sheep station with her husband and three-year-old son in the western Riverina. Cass created Outback Gardens to share her knowledge of plants and to encourage others in the region to create their own dream gardens with an emphasis on selecting the correct plant for their environment and location in the garden. She believes we can all construct our own green oasis with a little encouragement, knowledge, and realistic expectations for our region.

Cass will present the evolution of her own home garden from bare to beautiful. Over the past twelve months, Cass literally started from scratch using a blank landscape of dirt as the foundation. Her presentation will show how she has applied her knowledge and expertise to create a beautiful layout to her developing garden.

Workshop 2 “Ten Steps to Designing Your Home Garden: Tips and tricks you can use to design your home garden”

Presenter: Glenice Buck

Glenice is an award-winning landscape designer, she has over 20 years’ experience in the Landscape Design and Horticulture Industry. She is a qualified landscape designer, horticulturist, consultant arborist and freelance garden writer. Horticulture is not just a career for her, it is her lifelong passion.

This workshop will outline the most important steps you need to take when creating a beautiful garden design, for your home. We have broken down the design process into ten elements that you need to understand to create a successful garden design. We will give you a guide of where to start, how to observe and work with your site and its conditions, we will then illustrate different types of designs styles, layout, and planting.

Workshop 3 “Inspiration for re-invigorating an established garden”

Presenter: Catriona Glanville

Catriona has a Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture from University of NSW 1988 and a Certificate of Horticulture from Ryde TAFE 1990. Originally raised on a property near Canowindra, Catriona has experienced firsthand the difficulties of gardening away from soft reliable water, on difficult soils and at the mercy of drought. Presently married to a farmer in the Grenfell district where she is a partner in a broad acre farming business, raising her own family and creating a garden as well, Catriona brings a perspective shaped by experience and practicality to her work as a landscape architect and designer as well as being a qualified plants woman/horticulturalist.

Catriona will talk about creating structure within an existing garden, using her own garden as an example, and allowing time for a Q & A session at the end.
