Garden to plate: gardening
Come get dirty!
Learn how to prepare the soil, and plant and care for a selection of summer veggies – the focus is on bullet-proof and tasty crops suitable for a range of spaces. Participants will leave with a seedling to take home and plant, and the skills to make it thrive.
Annie Raser-Rowland is obsessed with letting people know about the pleasures of picking your own food, be it a bundle of wild dandelion leaves, or a homegrown tomato.
She is a graduate of horticulture and permaculture certificates, has worked at several Melbourne nurseries, performed urban edible garden design and spent a spell in Tanzania working on permaculture systems.
She is also co-author of The Weed Forager’s Handbook: A Guide to edible and Medicinal Weeds in Australia and The Art of Frugal Hedonism: A Guide to Spending Less While Enjoying Everything More, has one of the finest banana clumps in Brunswick, and prefers a ‘survival of the fittest’ approach to vegetable gardening.
