Description

Games: can they be art?
'To my knowledge, no one in or out of the field has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great dramatists, poets, filmmakers, novelists and composers.' - Roger Ebert.

Games have begun to transition from entertainment for consumption to creative output, but when does entertainment become art? Who decides if Zelda is art worthy of a museum? Can games ever shake off the reputation of a hobby? And why does Roger Ebert dislike games? Come and learn the answer to some of these questions and more in a lecture about games and art.
David Harris is a game designer and lecturer who has spoken internationally and run panels at PAX Australia and the Freeplay festival.
