Event description

Description

As we go through a huge change influenced by technology, there are changes in the way we view the nature of work. Has it become less about 'having a job' and more about the skills and experience required to deliver an outcome? Skills such as critical thinking and ability to manage change are more in demand.

Kevin Wheeler (Talent Futurist) was talking about 'microjobs' growing in numbers and having a catalogue of skills rather than expertise and credentials at a recent ATC conference.

Josh Bersin in an article, The Future of Work, said, 'Many of us now work on a contingency basis. Nearly 40% of USA workers are now contingent.' Australia is thought to be around 30%. Results from Deloitte’s 2015 Global Human Capital Trends report indicates that eight out of 10 respondents believe demand for skills is driving a trend toward greater use of contingent workers.

However, we are also at a time where we will have a number of generations in the workforce, each approach the job search quite differently. Older workers are savvier on LinkedIn, new generations use other social media and peer networks. Graduates are no longer expecting a ‘job for life’ and are expected to change careers a number of times in their lives. Attraction strategies need to be dynamic and agile.

We will be discussing what place recruitment has in helping plan for skills gaps going forward. How we can define and plan recruitment strategies for the future workforce and engaging with graduates and potential candidates now to give our organisation the skills for the future.

This event will cover:

  • Recruiting for tomorrow’s workforce today

  • How do you help your organisation gain the skills they need to succeed?

  • If we are now no longer looking for a single skill set but a series of skills, behaviours and attitudes that allow for the needs of the organisation, how do we measure talent to ensure we are recruiting the right people for the future?

  • How do you recruit and manage a gig or short-term workforce without using 3rd party recruiters? Are contingent management platforms like Nvoi now making accessing required skill sets any easier?

  • Will the future of work be less about the traditional job and more a focus on skills?
