Future Making for Kids
Sat. 3 June 2017, 9:00 am – 11:00 am AEST
Future Making workshop is a fast paced, hands-on activity for 9-12 year olds and their guardians aimed at teaching Human-Centred Design and Design Thinking.
It’s an exciting, lively and fun event. Throughout the two-hour workshop children will uncover a problem and be guided through steps to invent a creative solution.
As part of the workshop, children will be introduced to the Design Thinking process and examples of its importance in our daily life. They will complete a full cycle of the process, where they will practice soft skills such as interviewing, observing, reflecting on feedback and sketching and hard skills such as prototyping.
The workshop will run as a structured series of activities where each step builds on a previous one. Each activity will be time boxed at between 4 and 10 minutes. Children will work in pairs where they will interact with their partner throughout the workshop. They will complete each exercise independently, while being supported by professional creative problem solvers (human-centred designers) from Syfte every step of the way.
Children will leave with a physical prototype of their invention to take home, as well as having learned the tools to use creative problem solving in their everyday life. They will also be given a take home design challenge to practice their newly learned skills in their own time.
Tickets are sold in pairs : 1 child aged 9-12 years + 1 adult.
It is expected that Parents/Guardians participate in workshop as well.
