Event description
Join us for our very first teacher professional development workshops in Toowoomba.

About this Event

During the workshops, Queensland Museum facilitators guide Years 5 – 9 teachers through collaborative activities designed to develop the skills and confidence required to deliver innovative and engaging STEM activities in the classroom.

You will receive:

  • A teacher gift pack with curriculum-aligned printed resources and high quality materials to incorporate in your classroom learning.
  • Certificate of achievement detailing the Australian Professional Standards and professional development participation hours.

These workshops give you access to Queensland Museum resources and research that relate directly back to the middle years Australian Curriculum.

All workshops are designed to strengthen pedagogy within the classroom and are suitable for a range of experience levels.

More than 640 teachers have so far participated in the Future Makers TPD workshops. The self-reported increase in teacher confidence as a result of attending has been consistently high at 86%.

Workshop topic:

Water Matters

Water is one of the most versatile of all chemical substances, and is integral to the survival of natural and human systems. Within this workshop, teachers will use Queensland Museum objects and stories to explore the properties and importance of water, investigate the conservation and management of water, and consider how we can manage a changing water cycle as a result of a changing climate.

  • Year 5 Science – Solids, liquids and gases have different observable properties and behave in different ways (ACSSU077)
  • Year 6 Science – Changes to materials can be reversible or irreversible (ACSSU095)
  • Year 7 Science – Some of Earth’s resources are renewable, including water that cycles through the environment, but others are non-renewable (ACSSU116)
  • Year 8 Science – Properties of the different states of matter can be explained in terms of the motion and arrangement of particles (ACSSU151)

Within these workshops we will also present evidence-based strategies that can be modified to suit any year level.
