Description

Future Makers provides teachers with professional development that directly aligns STEM skills, inquiry learning and the Queensland Museum’s collections with the Australian Curriculum.

Workshops are suitable for teachers of year 5 to 9.

Future Makers is an initiative of the Queensland Museum and Shell's QGC business.


DETAILS

Date: Register for either Tuesday 10 September 2019 OR Wednesday 11 September 2019

Workshops will be repeated on each day to assist schools managing teacher relief.

Teachers from remote schools within the region, needing to travel to attend this event can apply for overnight accommodation support.


WORKSHOP TOPICS

School of Rocks

Rocks and minerals have been used by humans and our ancestors for millennia. Explore the formation and properties of rocks and their uses, and investigate the effects of volcanic activity.

Problematic Polymers

It can be difficult to imagine modern life without plastic. Despite its many uses, plastic has been criticised for its detrimental effects on our planet. Within this workshop, you will explore the impact of plastics on living things and the environment, and conduct an innovative experiment to investigate more sustainable ways of living.

Research

This Teacher Professional Development workshop forms part of an ARC Linkage Project (LP106101374: Community-based STEM professional learning for teachers of middle years) led by the University of Queensland. As part of your attendance at this workshop, your school will be approached with an offer to participate in the ARC Linkage research project.

The research project will assist us to assess the impact of the professional development we are providing, to continue to be able to provide similar workshops in the future, or to make improvements where needed.
