RoboClub: Introduction to Wearables Workshop

2 hour sessions x 2 weeks

Course Description

The RoboClub: Introduction to Wearables Workshop is designed to introduce students of high school age to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) through wearable technology. The workshop has been developed from the currently very successful workshops being run by RoboClub that utilize the RoboClub Framework consisting of Plug & Play (PnP) Hardware as well as Drag & Drop Visual Programming. These workshops cater for those who might not want to build a Robot by offering greater hands-on activities in manufacturing wearable electronics.

There is a need to depart from the PnP hardware nature of the RoboClub Framework due to the hands on nature of the program but all elements of the Drag & Drop Visual Programming are still utilised.

Participants gain an introductory understanding in circuit design, component identification, working with tools, programming devices, construction and troubleshooting by being able to create a work of their own design on a sample piece of material both in layout as well as configuration.

The format for the program is that the first 2 sessions are designed to provide participants with enough time and knowledge to understand as well as construct their projects. A 3rd session is optional and is offered to provide support and troubleshooting to any unfinished projects.

Prerequisites:

Ability to use a PC mouse – Drag & Drop

Some sewing/needlework experience an advantage
