Future Energy Planning
Tue. 25 October 2016, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm AEDT
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the following unique cross sector planning event:
Future Energy Planning: improving cross sector planning collaboration between local government and electricity networks
What does energy planning have in common with local government planning?
This half day conference will show case leading projects where Victorian councils and electricity networks have worked together to plan for and manage increasing local energy demand. Come along to:
- Learn how energy can be integrated into your planning work
- Meet and network with other planners across the state
- Build new relationships with electricity networks in your municipality
- Identify new cross sectoral planning opportunities
Under Victoria's planning system local councils and the State Government develop planning schemes to control land use and development. Currently, electricity network planning and land-use planning currently occur in isolation, meaning long term, viable and sustainable options for integrating demand and supply side opportunities are often missed. Whilst both land use planning schemes and the national energy market objectives intend to serve the long term interest of the community, they cannot do so whilst operating in isolation. Despite the implications land use planning has on local energy use and demand patterns, existing regulatory requirements do not require either sector to synchronise their respective planning processes. Ongoing and effective collaboration is therefore required between the sectors to ensure that opportunities for well-planned integrated energy solutions are captured.
This facilitated event will be open to all Victorian councils, state government agencies and other key stakeholders. The session will focus on building the capacity of local government attendees to understand the drivers and challenges within each network area and connecting key practitioners and stakeholders. This event will enable both sectors to share information, collaboratively identify and develop sustainable energy solutions and facilitate better energy planning for new developments. The conference will be followed by targeted workshops in early 2017 to progress some of the opportunities identified.
