Event description

Description

In 1841 our ancestors Samuel and Judith Furphy arrived in Hobson’s Bay aboard the Barque Argyle. Some of you will remember the great family reunion we held on the Polly Woodside in 1991 to celebrate 150 years.

The young couple spent their first years in the Kangaroo Ground area near Melbourne, before moving to Kyneton, and in 1868 selected land in the Lake Cooper district on the western edge of the Goulburn Valley. The family moved there in 1869 and it is believed they arrived at their selection on 24 May (Queen Victoria’s birthday).

What better excuse for another reunion to celebrate 150 years?

Cate and Clem Furphy now own the selection, known as Sand Hills, and together with Adam Furphy and Sam Furphy of J Furphy and Sons and Furphy Foundry respectively, are planning events at the farm and in Shepparton on the weekend of 25/26 May 2019.

Descendants of Samuel and Judith (who incidentally had her 200th birthday on 12 December) are invited to express interest in attending, and also passing on this invitation to other relatives to do likewise.

Accommodation: Accommodation is going to be tight unfortunately as the National BMX Junior Championships are being held in Shepparton during the week leading up to the weekend of the 25/26th.
