Details - 3 day event - 9am to 6pm with 1 short break and 1 hour for lunch - course notes provided

Attendees - must be a health professional with appropriate qualifications for their country. This is not for the general public.

This course will take the attendee through the most relevant clinical approaches used in functional medicine (including diet, lifestyle, sleep and stress management) for specific conditions. This course lays the foundations for clinicians that want to work with a functional medicine framework with respect to current research. The course will take on three main topics functional medicine clinical applications, clinical examination techniques (relevant to conditions discussed) and vagus nerve stimulation (examination and treatment). This course is only for clinicians working in the field of health that either want to understand these topics for interest or are allowed to utilise them according to local laws and regulations for each modality. Structure of the Course

Friday 26th January 9am to 6pm

1. Introduction to using the functional medicine matrix and timeline – 30 min - 9am to 9:30am

2. General physical observation – skin exam, signs of disease, easy oral exam, easy inner ear exam – 1 hour - 9:30am to 10:30am

Break - 15 minutes

3. Anatomy and physiology session – lymphatic system – 15 minutes - 10:45am to 11am

4. General physical palpation - lymph node exam and drainage sites – 30 minutes - 11am to 11:30am

5. Anatomy and physiology session – peripheral nervous system – 15 minutes - 11:30am to 11:45am

6. General physical palpation – peripheral nervous system (including parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system) – 2 hours - 11:45am to 1pm and 2pm to 2:45pm

1pm Lunch

7. Structure and function of brain regions – 15 minutes - 2:45pm to 3pm

8. Assessing the frontal, parietal and temporal lobes and limbic system – 30 minutes - 3pm to 3:30pm

9. Diagnosing neural impairments based on sensory testing, motor exam, palpation, neurodynamic testing and symptoms – 1 hour - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

10. Functional Medicine Approach to treating brain conditions such as dementia, MS, ASD, depression, schizophrenia – 1.5 hours - 4:30 to 6pm


Saturday 27th January 9am to 6pm

1. Functional Medicine Approach to heart and circulatory conditions – 45 minutes - 9am to 9:45am

2. Heart and circulatory examination (heart sounds, heaves, apex beat etc, pulse, DVT examination) – 1.5 hours - 9:45am to 11:15am

break 15 minute

3. Functional Medicine Approach to respiratory conditions – 30 minutes - 11:30am to 12noon

4. Respiratory exam – 45 minutes - 12noon to 12:45pm

Lunch 1pm

5. Functional Medicine Approach to gastrointestinal complaints and digestion (SIBO, SIFO, dysbiosis, parasites etc) – 1 hour - 2pm to 3pm

6. Functional Medicine Approach to Coeliac’s disease, non-Coeliac gluten sensitivity, molecular mimicry, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis – 1 hour - 3pm to 4pm

7. Functional Medicine Approach to liver dysfunction and detoxification problems – 1 hour - 4pm to 5pm

8. Abdomen examination including percussion and palpation – 1 hour - 5pm to 6pm


Sunday 28th January 9am to 6pm

1. Assessing for signs and symptoms of hyper or hypothyroidism (inc. Grave’s disease and Hashimoto’s disease) – 30 minutes - 9am to 9:30am

2. Functional Medicine Approach to thyroid dysfunction – 1 hour - 9:30am to 10:30am

break 15 min

3. Functional Medicine Approach to HPA axis dysfunction – 1 hour - 10:45am to 11:45am

4. Functional Medicine Approach to autoimmune arthritides – 1 hour - 11:45am to 12:45pm

Lunch 1pm

5. Functional Medicine Approach to Musculoskeletal Conditions (tendinopathies, soft tissue injuries, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, bursitis etc) – 2 hours - 2pm to 4pm

6. Vagus nerve stimulation introduction and research – 1 hour - 4pm to 5pm

7. Practical application of vagus nerve examination and transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation – 1 hour - 5pm to 6pm.
