Overview

LEARN HOW TO MAKE AN INDIGO DYE VAT; FOLD, WRAP, CLAMP AND BIND FABRICS TO CREATE UNIQUE PATTERNS AND DESIGN

Thank you for registering with The Makers Studio Central Coast Inc to a Members Only Workshop - FUN WITH INDIGO with RUZA SANTOS

Please find below all the information you need regarding workshop attendance.

Date: Saturday 7 march 2026

Time: 10am – 4pm

Venue: Building 3 Lions Community Hall, 8 Russell Drysdale St

East Gosford (entrance at the rear of the building)

What we will do!

Together we will mix the ingredients to create an indigo vat for the group to use.

While the vat is maturing, we will explore the different ways to create patterns on fabric by wrapping, twisting, folding, clamping, and sewing.

The following materials will be provided:

The Indigo dye vat

2 pieces of material to dye – 1 scarf length, & 1 tea towel

What you should bring:

I would also encourage everyone to bring many extra items to dye – such as T-shirts, kids clothing, napkins, pillowslips, small tablecloth, a shirt, pair of shorts or dress that could use a revamp

Also bring a pencil, ruler and some precut cotton swatches, 30 x 30cm. Needles (some with large holes) and strong cotton thread. We will use these to practice stitching to create a unique pattern to dye.

Cotton, natural fibres work best and will be vibrant. Acrylics will be very muted, and you may be disappointed in the results.

Papers can be dyed as well – for example, any watercolour paper, wet strength tissue paper. Bring your own and play. This will be an opportunity to create covers for book binding, collage work, gelli printing, etc.

• strings of various thickness – Bunnings twine of various thicknesses, wool, macrame cord. Needle and cotton (Some of these are at the studio but bring what you have that you want to try)

• Apron, , lunch, bottle of water.

*Please wear old, dark clothing in case you get splashes of indigo on your clothing.

You will need to wear closed in shoes while working in the studio for work health safety reasons.

Looking forward to working with you.
