About this Event

with Christine Jackman

This face-to-face event is sold out, but you are still able to tune in online via live stream!

Get insider knowledge from an award-winning feature writer on how to get paid for good writing!

Freelance writing offers freedom and flexibility, not to mention a valuable revenue stream while you're working on your next novel. But in 2021, the industry will be more competitive than ever. Some insider knowledge can be the difference between getting paid well by a well-regarded publication and churning out words for a miserly content factory.

With almost 30 years of experience writing for Australian and international publications, Christine is ready to share what works and what doesn't in modern freelancing. You'll learn how to tap into your existing expertise and interests to generate a saleable story, as well as how to target the right publications and craft a killer pitch. You'll also discover the Top Three Story Types that almost all editors are looking for.

At the end of the workshop, you will walk away with one story idea and a target for your pitch.

Unavailable to make it in person? You can also watch this workshop via online live stream! Live stream tickets are available here.

Learning Outcomes:

Through practical exercises and discussion, you will:

  • Learn who to target and how
  • Tap into your own interests and expertise to identify marketable stories
  • Gain techniques for structure and research
  • Find and pitch story ideas with confidence.
  • Learn the art of the pitch

This is a hybrid workshop with a focus on sustainability and engagement; it will be live streamed simultaneously to an online audience. It is a level 1 course, suitable for writers of all levels.

More information on program formats and level definitions can be found here.
