Description

This event is a partnership between Sustainable Living in Kingborough and Kingborough Council:

If you would like to diversify the number of varieties of fruit tree's in your garden, this is the course for you. Justin Direen has a wealth of expertise in both the technical and practical side of grafting fruit trees. Justin currently works at UTas and delivers practical grafting courses to Science and Plant science students. This course will be for the beginner. Justin will provide all the required tools, materials, handouts and lists needed, so you can apply your skills and practice at home on your own trees. The course will cover the following:

  1. Tips on successful grafting of fruit trees using a variety of grafting methods (including the cleft graft)

  2. Grafting terms explained and models to look at.

  3. Equipment needed for grafting, with examples to look at. List of equipment provided.

Demonstrations will be carried out in small groups. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.

Justin will also provide scion wood, sealant and tape for grafting, which participants can take home and try themselves. Participants will also receive rootstock to graft at the course to take home.

Information on other fruit varieties to graft will also be provided.Varieties include a range of apples, plus quince and cherry.

What to bring: All weather clothing and covered footwear.
