Event description

Description

Within the context of development, intersecting issues of food security, nutrition, and health represent complex challenges to human wellbeing. This is especially the case for the island Pacific where rapid urbanization, increasingly unstable climate conditions, and neo-liberal economic environments are generating countervailing pressures and situations of both economic and ecological precarity and uncertainty. Vanuatu has been at the forefront of pioneering innovative, grounded, local-level responses to these life challenges, including especially in the areas of public health, urban agriculture and food security policy. This seminar invites policy, agriculture, and nutrition experts from Vanuatu to share their own work in this critical area of policy and development, and to discuss the range of positive responses that are needed to meet the broader challenge of food security in the Pacific region and beyond.

Invited speakers include:

Mrs Emily Tumukon, Mr Lawrence Nimoho, Ms Louisa Tokon, and Ms Lana Elliot.

The seminar will take place from 2-4pm on October 26 on the La Trobe Bundoora Campus in TLC 115.
