About this event

Far North Queensland-born First Nations singer-songwriter, storyteller, dancer, actor, visual artist, Cultural Leader and Global Ambassador for Indigenous Australia, David Hudson, presents a showcase performance of new work that brings to the stage the story of his lifetime that is both as epic as The Dreamtime and as intimate as a campfire yarn.

This 40-minute showcase is part of the creative development process, working towards a full production that will be staged in 2023. This 40-minute showcase will give audiences entertaining and intriguing insights into the development process with selected scenes and songs from a work followed by a chance to speak to David and his creative team with a question-and-answer session.

David toured all over the world with Greek composer Yanni traversing the world musically and educating people about his culture. He co-founded the award-winning dance troupe ‘Tjapukai’, whose achievements include being Australia's longest running theatrical production. David has emerged as a strong cultural leader with a significant arts practice. And this larger-than-life artist, whose personality can fill a stage, still has a few more extraordinary stories to tell.

Developed in partnership with JUTE and with support from the Arts Queensland First Nations Commission fund.

In 2022, 'Campfire to Stagelight' will be performed in a full theatrical season, co-produced between JUTE Theatre Company and David's own company Didgeralia, and the show will be a stunning performance feature of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair.

This opportunity to see David Hudson's work-in-progress creative development outcomes is a partnership between Didgeralia and JUTE.
