Event description

Description

Join author and journalist Amal Awad as she examines with humour, humanity and honesty how we as individuals and a society struggle to deal with ageing, illness and how we deal with the taboo surrounding this human experience in Fridays with my Folks.

In Fridays with my Folks, Amal interweaves stories from the Fridays she now spends with her parents, following her father’s diagnoses with kidney failure, with wider explorations of how Australians are ageing, how sickness affects the afflicted and those around them, and what solutions may exist when hope seems lost.

Amal Awad is a Sydney-based writer, journalist, author and public speaker. Amal is a regular contributor to SBS Life, a casual producer for ABC Radio National and has written for ELLE, Frankie and Junkee. Amal frequently writes and speaks about issues of society, religion and popular culture. Her 2017 book, Beyond Veiled Cliches – The Real Lives of Arab Women is a work of non-fiction that explores the lives of Arab women both in Australia and in the Arab world.

Books will be available for purchase on the night.

Bookings essential.
