Event description

Description

The Fremantle Town Hall has recently undergone a significant once in a generation restoration. Before these works it had been almost thirty years since the last major capital expenditure on the building.

Since mid-2016 a large team of skilled stonemasons, plasterers, lead workers and slate roofers with specialist traditional skills have transformed the exterior of the town hall building using traditional building methods.

The end result respects the original intention for the town hall to look like a high-quality, finely-detailed stone building, much like it did in 1887 when first unveiled. The building will be 'unveiled' on Friday 26 May.

Join us for this talk on 31 May which will focus on the history of the building, the challenges of conservation and construction, the unexpected discoveries, traditional trades and materials and the future of this iconic Fremantle building.

As places are limited please register your attendance by 27 May 2017.
