Event description

Description

Thank you so much for your interest in ensuring the Riverina district is a safe welcoming place for seasonal guest workers and new migrants to the area.

We are pleased to invite you to attend a Community workshop on how to identify and respond to human trafficking, criminal exploitation and forced labour.

Many people, from local residents to business owners through day-to-day activities may encounter victims of criminal exploitation and uncover activities linked to modern slavery crimes.

For instance, housing officers may come across potential victims living in substandard accommodation when inspecting houses and councillors may hear concerns from residents about particular businesses or houses in their area.

It is therefore crucial that more people are aware of their potential roles in addressing modern slavery. Conditions in industries with high rates of mistreatment and exploitation have been identified as agriculture, construction, hospitality and cleaning.

The Salvation Army's Freedom Links training is especially relevant for church congregations, community leaders, service providers, first responders, organisations and agencies staff who may encounter or engage with migrants.
