Event description

Description

This is a two part workshop in a series of free workshops offered as part of the community performance project "A Place To Land".
If you're curious about participating in the performance, we warmly encourage you to check out one or even all of the workshops in the series. They are a great way to take a peek at the project, build your performance skills or simply get inspired with some creative movement ideas!

And if any of the workshops inspire you with a creative idea that you'd like to perform, get in touch with The Body Speaks. We can also offer you further rehearsal time and support to develop your idea into a dance.

RSVP is essential using the link above.

Places are limited, so please only book a place if you are considering performing as part of the "A Place To Land" project (it's ok if you don't know yet!).

You will get the most out of these two workshops if you attend both part 1 and 2, however it is also ok to attend just one part.

TWO PART WORKSHOP: Stages of Migration - Dance Improvisation
This workshop explores the journey across the psychological stages of migration from leaving the comfort/discomfort of home to call a new land home. The stages of anticipation, amazement, homesickness and finally, adaptation.
Participants will have the opportunity to improvise and experiment with movement to silence, slow and fast paced music, using different themes as dance cues. Guided mindful improvisation exercises will encourage a focused attention on the self, the space and interaction with the rest of the group.
The workshop will support you to develop your skills in dance improvisation, group work, self-awareness and self expression, with the outcome of meaningful movement produced individually and as a group.

Suitable for participants from any movement background as well as those who have not danced before. The workshop is equally open to those with a personal history of migration as well as those without.
