Event description
Supporting mentally healthy workplaces by encouraging safer and more effective informal workplace support.

About this event

Supportive Relationships in the Workplace

This workshop is being offered FREE to eligible workers (whether currently employed or not) in the Construction industry in:

  • Brisbane;
  • Ipswich;
  • Rockhampton; and
  • Mackay

thanks to generous funding from Construction Skills Queensland.

This peer support workshop for adults in the workplace, adopts a powerful person-centred approach to problem prevention and to addressing a range of issues that impact on people including social isolation, bullying, mental health concerns and suicide.

Peer prevention programs are based on the evidence that individuals often turn to a peer for support for stressful life events. Participants are upskilled to respond appropriately when a peer or co-worker discloses a personal crisis, thereby making these informal interactions more structured, effective, and safe.

Participants are supported to:

• Define and understand peer support

• Define and understand values and how they impact on our interactions with others

• Develop empathic communication skills

• Problem-solve and support peers to problem-solve using a simple model

• Take care of their wellbeing
