Event description

Description

Islands explores the secrets, stories and hidden histories of Queensland’s islands and in doing so, reshapes our knowledge of these close but faraway places. From Peel Island’s lazaret and St Helena Island’s penal settlement to the story of Eliza Fraser and the development of tourism on Lindeman Island, Islands brings to life some of the lesser known stories of our state’s island life. The exhibition draws on State Library’s rich collections to explore the stories of six Queensland islands through photographs, drawings, maps, objects and more.

The Curator's Tour will offer insights and behind-the-scenes information not normally accessible to the public. Come along and hear the real secrets behing this incredibly rich exhibition.

Free Curator's Tours of 'Islands: Hidden Histories from Queensland Islands' occurs on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, for the duration of the exhibition. See separate Eventbrite listings to book into other sessions.

The exhibition closes on 27 Janurary, 2019

Time: 11am - 12pm

Where: Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery, level 4, State Library of Queensland
