Event description

Description

This workshop will be run by Dr Mathew Ling and will teach the foundations of the R language and R Studio interface through practical and hands-on experience of running common analyses. We will also discuss R’s broader utility and advantages over other statistical systems. No knowledge or experience of R is expected (this is for complete novices), just a working familiarity with statistics (e.g. t-tests, ANOVA, and regression). BYO laptop.

R is a free, flexible, and powerful analysis system, ideal for the management of complex data, production of graphics, and implementation of a phenomenal range of analyses in a clean and reproducible fashion. It is one of the fastest growing statistical systems in terms of user base and functional capacity. New analysis tools are constantly being added, allowing R to handle tasks like meta-analysis, latent variable modelling, EEG and neuroimaging analysis, text-mining, and many more. This power and the complete lack of cost-barriers are likely to make R supplant systems like SPSS and STATA in the future.
