1 day workshop -  11th May 2020

This workshop will develop clinician’s understanding and practice in working effectively with people with borderline personality disorder (BPD). It will include a developmental understanding of factors contributing to a diagnosis of BPD, the ongoing effects of early life experiences and complex childhood trauma, and the role of therapeutic relationships in treatment. The workshop will also focus on the assessment of, and working with risk, as well as principles for treatment and treatment planning.

Presenters:  Peter Smith & Marianne Weddell

Marianne Weddell is a Clinical Psychologist with 20 years experiences in public and private setting treating a wide range of disorders, managing teams, training staff and supervising/mentoring clinicians. She has a special interest and significant experience with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), in particular developing service and family systems to work effectively in this space. Marianne is excited to have recently joined the therapeutic community at Spectrum in the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) program and as a senior clinician in the Workforce Development Team. She believes in therapy as a tool to help people understand themselves, their passions and build a life worth living.

Peter Smith is a social worker with many years’ experience in a variety of contexts including: rights and advocacy, policy and governance for a student unionand housing and accommodation for homeless people with mental health concerns. More recently he’s worked in public area mental health outpatient clinics in a variety of roles as a case manager, in outreach support for homeless people and in crisis assessment and intervention, including with PACER. He currently works for Spectrum.

Who should register?  Mental health clinicians and other professionals working with people with personality disorders.

Cost: $220 (Payable by credit card only).

Lunch:  A light lunch including a vegetarian selection is provided.

Cancellation policy: If your circumstances change and you no longer can attend this event after you have registered please email spectrumtraining@easternhealth.org.au no later than one (1) week prior to the event to cancel and/or be issued with a full refund.  A refund will not be issued if notification has not been received within this time frame and you will be required to pay for the event.
