Whether you are going for a weekend away or to the far-flung corners of the world, learn how to inspire, inform and tell stories with your travel photography.
At fotografica we place equal weight on the technical and creative aspects of photography. In this workshop you will learn how to not only capture the people and places you see through your lens but also how to interpret a location creatively.
Planning is key. Learn the most effective up-to-date methods to research and prepare for your journey.
Travelling with too much equipment can be tiring and demotivating, travelling with too little can be frustrating and disappointing. In this very practical section of the workshop we put together example kits based on each participant's intended (or dreamed-of) journey and location.
Settling in to a new location is critical. Learn the routines and habits that underpin successful travel photography as well as the steps you need to take to ensure you will be safe and well.
What and how to shoot
On a practical level travel photography encompasses all genres - portraits, landscapes, action, events, low-light, food, the list goes on. We will cover the typical camera settings and equipment needed for each of these.
At fotografica we believe travel photography is also about interpretation and storytelling, so you will learn compositional and creative techniques as well. Context, colour vs b&w, perspective, juxtaposition, symbols, pace and flow are just some of the considerations when creating visual narratives and we will cover them all.
Storing and sharing files
Learn best practice back-up techniques as well as how to edit and share your photos whilst you're away.
Now the fun begins! Whether you are making a photobook, a canvas triptych, or a series of framed prints you will need to select and edit files from your journey.
You will learn how to do this quickly, efficiently and artistically using image editing software (we will use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, and what is covered will be applicable to most other programs).
