Event description

Description

You are invited to attend a Forum on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework, for senior managers and directors of disability service organisations.

Introduction - The human rights focus of the framework: Speak Out self advocate

Behaviour Support requirements of the Framework: Charley Hodgson, A/Senior Practitioner

Guest Speakers:

Paul Ramcharan, Deputy Director Research at the Future Social Service Institute and Assoc. Prof. Social Policy and practice at the Centre for Applied Social Research, RMIT University.

‘Reducing behaviours of concern and the use of restrictive practices needs more than a focus on the individual. His presentation will explain the steps an organisation can take to achieve ‘whole of service’ cultural change to achieve ‘dignity without restraint’. It will show how, additional to good positive behaviour support, human rights, choice and zero tolerance frameworks can be implemented to achieve best practice in disability support and improve lives for people with disability.’

and James Bannister, Manager, Applied Research Projects, National Disability Services

‘Zero Tolerance is an initiative to build the capacity of disability service providers to recognise, prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, violence and exploitation. As part of prevention it looks at the broader denial of basic human rights with risk becoming normalised for people with disability.’
