Event Details

Formidable Vegetable bring their unique permaculture funk-swing jamboreeare along with Mal Webb & Kylie Morrigan's face-flappingly, string-shreddingly, sensationally cerebral songwriting back to NZ for another stint of radish-beet infused party vibes.

Come to The Lodge Theatre in Geraldine on Sat Feb 9th to experience something "so infectious that the most ardent climate sceptic would have trouble staying still" (Sydney Morning Herald)

With a wheelbarrow full of dirty electro radish-beets, crusty jazz ukulele, swingin' strings and hyperactive horns, Formidable Vegetable are here to sow the garden of your mind with seeds of future-resilience in the funkiest way possible.

Having planted their tendrils into every corner of the globe from Glastonbury Festival to the United Nations (who acclaimed them for "singing about the important issues of the world"), Formidable Vegetable is using their quirky brand of musical activism to de-pave the problems and grow fertile, abundant solutions in their place.

Over the years, they have become a favourite on the Australian and international festival circuits, having played at some of the biggest events in the world alongside Radiohead, Tame Impala (they used to jam together!) and The Rolling Stones.

Realising that music is one of the best tools for learning and inspiring new behaviour, FoVeg frontman Charlie Mgee has dedicated his musical mission in life to composing funky tunes on a ukulele about creating the kind of world we want to live in.

At any given time, Formidable Vegetable consists of Charlie Mgee on uke and vocals, Mal Webb on slide trumpet & trombone, Kylie Morrigan on violin and an untold combination of other virtuosic musicians, depending on which hemisphere they happen to be in at the thyme. Yes. Thyme.

Tickets $20 online or at the door. (Kids under 12 free)

Show starts 7.30pm

Formidable Vegetable

"So infectious that the most ardent climate sceptic would have trouble staying still"- Sydney Morning Herald

Possibly the only band in the world promoting permaculture principles, ecological resilience and climate-change adaptation through dance music, Western Australia’s Formidable Vegetable are the world’s most unique experiment in ‘ecological electrofunk-swing’. With high-energy live shows consisting of glitchy bass-beets, swingin-ukulele, soaring strings and hyperactive horns, this act has only one goal: to pound simple solutions for sustainability deep into your consciousness in the funkiest way possible!

With their music permeating every corner of the globe from Glastonbury Festival to the headquarters of the United Nations over the past six years, Formidable Vegetable is paving the way towards simple solutions to some of the worlds’ biggest problems with their special brand of positive musical activism. They are a favourite on the Australian and international festival circuits, having played many times at Woodford Folk Festival (Queensland), Rainbow Serpent (Victoria), BOOM Festival (Portugal), Shambhala (Canada), Symbiosis (USA), Boomtown (UK) and more, alongside acts such as Radiohead, Foo Fighters and The Rolling Stones.

Realising that music is one of the best tools for bringing about cultural change, globetrotting troubadour and the mind behind Formidable Vegetable, Charlie Mgee has dedicated his musical mission to composing swingin' tunes on a ukulele that address issues of climate change, food security and sustainable living in various musical styles ranging from 'energy-descent electroswing' to 'post-apocalypso', which make for an eccentrically entertaining and unforgettable musical experience.

In a world gone mad, there's one thing you can do to improve the party: Lettuce Turnip the Rad(ish) Beets and Rocket!
