Forest bathing is a mindful way to slow down and connect with nature. This walk takes place on a precious track of subtropical rainforest.

About this event

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed or drained? Would you like to feel more grounded and present, and create some space to reconnect with yourself and the world around you?

Forest bathing is a simple and powerful way to support your physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, it does not involve bathing in the water. Rather, it is about soaking in the atmosphere of nature via your senses.

It can help you unwind and recharge, gain perspective, find inspiration, and deepen your relationship with nature.

Where

This small group walk takes place in Tamborine National Park, in the beautiful Palm Grove section, on Wangerriburra country.

We pass through with lush rainforest, with towering strangler figs, skinny Piccaneen palms, tall trees with vines and ferns, and abundant bird and wildlife.

Parking is available on site, at and around the end of Palm Grove Avenue.

Details of where to meet on the day will be provided 48 hours prior to the event.

What to expect

This event has a maximum of 8 participants, and is suitable for people 12 years and over.

It runs for two hours.

Your certified guide, Monique Ross, will lead you through a mindfulness meditation to help you to switch off and slow down.

In partnership with the land, Monique will then offer a series of simple and open ‘invitations’, carefully crafted to help you explore and engage in any way that feels right to you. In between invitations at various sites, the group comes together to share what they are noticing.

It is a very gentle experience that is intentionally slow; you can expect to travel no further than 2kms over the entire course of the walk. The path should be manageable for most fitness levels. It involves some walking over exposed roots and a slight incline.

Please note that this walk is not suitable for wheelchair users, however, many of my other walks are!

If you have any accessibility needs or mobility concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Your Guide

Monique Ross is an experienced certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, who trained with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. She is the founder of Heartwood Nature Bathing.

She is also a journalist, author, and cat-mum.

Monique has up-to-date certifications in Remote and Wilderness Area First Aid, and full public liability insurance. All appropriate permits are in place.

What to bring

  • A bottle of water, sunscreen and a hat
  • To be wearing clothes you feel comfortable in (it does not have to be hiking gear!)
  • A small cushion to sit on if you do not want to sit directly on the ground. (A pillowcase works really well, too!)
  • A bag or backpack to store your keys and personal items
  • An open heart

Please note, this trail can be a tad muddy after rain. I suggest wearing runners or sandals; thongs can be a little tricky! Or, of course, there is the option of being barefoot!
