Forest bathing is a mindful way to slow down, de-stress and connect with nature. This walk takes place at Sherwood Arboretum.

About this event

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed or drained? Would you like to feel more grounded and present, and create some space to reconnect with yourself and the world around you?

Forest bathing is a simple and powerful way to support your physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, it does not involve bathing in the water. Rather, it is about soaking in the atmosphere of nature via your senses.

It can help you unwind and recharge, gain perspective, find inspiration, and deepen your relationship with the world around you.

Where

This small group walk takes place at the beautiful Sherwood Arboretum in Brisbane/Meanjin, on Turrbal and Jagera country.

Ample parking is available on site.

Details of where to meet on the day will be provided 48 hours prior to the event.

What to expect

This event has a maximum of 8 participants, and is suitable for people 12 years and over.

It runs for 90 minutes.

Your certified guide, Monique Ross, will lead you through a mindfulness meditation to help you to switch off and slow down.

In partnership with the land, Monique will then offer a series of simple and open ‘invitations’, carefully crafted to help you explore and engage in any way that feels right to you. In between invitations at various sites, the group comes together to share what they are noticing.

It is a very gentle experience that is intentionally slow; you can expect to travel no further than 2kms over the entire course of the walk. The path should be manageable for all fitness levels, as well as assisted wheelchair users.

If you have any accessibility or mobility concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Your Guide

Monique Ross is an experienced certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, who trained with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. She is the founder of Heartwood Nature Bathing.

She is also a journalist, author, and cat-mum.

Monique has up-to-date certifications in Remote and Wilderness Area First Aid, and full public liability insurance. All of the appropriate permits have been secured.

What to bring

  • A bottle of water, sunscreen and a hat
  • To be wearing clothes you feel comfortable in (it does not have to be hiking gear!)
  • A small cushion to sit on if you do not want to sit directly on the ground. (A pillowcase works really well, too!)
