Description

This session will provide updated information on the importance of foot examination in people with diabetes. The presenters will cover the assessment of diabetic foot ulcers and diabetic foot emergencies, the role and function of
interdisciplinary diabetes foot clinic and appropriate referral pathways.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the importance of foot examinations and imparting knowledge about foot care to people with diabetes.

  • Discuss how to assess the severity of foot ulcers in people with diabetes in terms of blood supply, wound infection, associated soft tissue, or bone involvement, along with the systemic features of sepsis.

  • Explain the role and function of an interdisciplinary diabetes foot clinic team.

  • Identify diabetic foot emergencies and discuss referral pathways for diabetes foot conditions and emergencies.
