Foodie Nature Play playgroup Term 2, 2022

Our Foodie Nature Play is a nurturing playgroup for families with children from 12 months to 6 years. It is based at SWAMP Community Garden at the Central Coast Wetlands in Tuggerah.

The group is facilitated by Mandy dos Santos, our Children and Family Program Co-ordinator. Mandy is also a Nutritionist and Food Scientist with Little People Nutrition.

Each session is created for children to develop a sense of wonder and discovery around food and nature.

The mornings will begin with a morning circle of song and connection. We will then have the opportunity to move into free play or partake in a more structured activity such as a story, gardening, cooking or arts and craft. Each session will engage the children in some food preparation for their morning tea.

Our values around food education are that children are learning about food and that it is important for them to explore where it comes from; how it is raised and grown; how we share and prepare it amongst our communities, families and friends; how we eat it together; and how it makes us feel in our bodies and helps us grow. By being involved in all aspects of food, this will empower a deeper understanding, trust and respect for food. And in response, the aim is for children to develop a positive relationship with food, the environment and their community.

We also deeply believe that a child should have access and connection to their natural surrounds. And that dirt and nature reach their bodies and minds through their food and their play.

Hence, Foodie Nature Play.

Ticketing info:

Little bubbas under 12 months are most welcome, although the activities are more catered for over this age group. If your bubba is a sibling of an older children, then please bring them along, there is no need to pay for a sibling under 12 months. If you bubba is a single child and under 12 months, then please purchase a ticket.

If you need to cancel your ticket, please get in touch 48 hours before the event. We can then refund you.

If your little one is sick, if you can tell us the day before, we can reschedule your session and transfer your ticket.

Unfortunately if you let us know on the morning, we have already purchased all the foods and consumables and so will be unable to refill your spot and it will go to waste. Therefore this will be at your cost.

It is an all weather event but of course, if it is continuous rain, it will be cancelled by 8am on the day, via email. I will also post it on social media on Instagram and Facebook. But if it is intermittent spitting rain, it is a go go!
